Designed by Bower Architecture,  this modern house is located in Elsternwick, Melbourne. The house, modern and bright, impresses the viewer with its neat and clean exterior. The extension allows a generous north facing living space to open up at the rear. Bedrooms and bathrooms are located in the front (existing) portion of the house and an intimate transition space clearly defines the separation between old and new. The rear living spaces features 4m high ceilings and expansive areas of glass sliding doors and louvres for natural ventilation.Floor to ceiling windows open up the entire space towards the outdoor terrace and the surrounding green environment, while flooding the rooms in natural light. A large external canopy provides weather protection to the indoor and outdoor living areas resulting in a contemporary addition which harmoniously sits alongside the roof form of the existing house. The house opens up to the courtyard, allowing the sun to warm up the interior during wintertime. The floor-to-ceiling glass panels are also very helpful.
