Reduced, uncomplicated ways of understanding architecture are one of my favorite philosophies. Simplicity calms us and somehow inspires us, not only in architecture but also in other forms of design.

The house we found in Los Angeles, California, realized by Amit Apel Design works as a perfect example. As you can easily notice from the pictures below, this residence not only makes use of a simple geometry, but also avoids the mistake of using far too many materials that much of modern architecture makes. The architect maintained simplicity by using only the materials necessary, allowing the geometry to speak for the architecture. But, as many artists claim, simplicity does not mean being simple. A large suspended planter welcomes the inhabitants as they enter the house. Despite its enormous dimensions, the container makes the space spectacular, original and vibrant. None can say the space is an ordinary statement of approaching contemporary architecture. Moreover, the designer chose the right amount of color everywhere. It is almost impossible to imagine another stroke or another color without ruining the composition.
