Miquel Angel Lacomba, principal of Palma-based studio Miquel Lacomba Architect has designed this single family home completed in 2009. This two story contemporary residence is located in Pollença, on Mallorca, a Spanish island in the Mediterranean Sea. The intent was to maintain a maximum number of existing pines and holm oaks, avoiding significant terrain movements and preserving the original topography.
So that the car park is situated on the level of the public pavement, executed on the level of the public pavement, executed with a light structure, intermingling with the existing trees, without creating complicated ramps inside the plot. The arrangement of the volumes allows to create a courtyard with southwards orientation in the living areas and produce cosy and intimate atmosphere. The possibility of acceding to the house from the roof prompts the appearance of the external stairway integrated to the 1st floor section where the bedrooms are situated.
On the ground-floor the living-dining room and the kitchen form integrated space with double orientation towards the courtyard on the southside and mountain views on the other side. The location of the studio in front of the staircase allows to see the patio through the open wooden sliding door. The external communication is organized on the basis of a clear axis, materialized in the stairway adapted to the slope and respects the trees that appear on its way.
