It was designed by Guy Herschell Architects, and has a façade of rusting steel that gives it a very unique look.  Clad in rusting steel, dramatic black stained battened plywood and nestled in the rural watershed of the Richmond ranges south of Nelson, this state of the art family eco-home explores the context of building in the landscape of the rural Waimea planes, drawing upon the textures of rustic rural buildings and rusty wool sheds to create an elegant weathering building bathed in an underbelly of light and sumptuous family living. The client’s brief called for a family home which was suitable for young children, with room for future flexibility; a home which embodied best practice eco and architectural principals, lifestyle ideals, and sustainable eco-technology within a balanced budget.
