Farmhouse is a residential project completed by A.D.D. Concept + Design.This spacious contemporary home is located in California, USA. Concrete, timber and glass: three very different materials, three very good friends. As this Californian farmhouse by A.D.D. Concept + Design shows, not only do they work well together, they add to the depth, materiality and texture of the design. Added to that the sexy black exterior finish and this project is as modern and fresh as they come.
This home has a strong and confident street presence, yet is subtle in the approach and execution of the finished design. Of course I am mad for any project where the materials are represented so honestly and this house would easily have me looking forward to farm life. Externally, the program is made up of several different ‘shed-like’ volumes that from the street create the narrative that this is a collection of farm buildings. From here the depth of materials begins to develop with the garage and double-storey ‘sheds’ clad in blackened timber with another concrete ‘shed’ tucked in behind.
