Cultural centers and artistic pavilions are original, interesting places where you can find people that share your commitment and passion. Whether it’s sharing your interests, having intelligent debates or trading a little gossip, the friends you have at art centers keep you informed, intrigued and entertained. Located in Baia Mare, a city in northwestern Romania, the cultural center we present you today is called “The colony of the artists” and it was realized by  9.Optiune studio. The concept behind the project dealt with an alternative of interior and exterior areas linked by glass or divided by concrete. The architects reflected on the value they placed on a dialogue between a building and its natural setting. That dialogue was facilitated by their judicious use of concrete and glass. Compared with the lumbering concrete structures of some modern architects, “The colony of the artists” is almost slight in its pared-back use of this most common of building materials.

A perfect place that attracts visionary thinkers from around the city to discuss the cultural and political currents shaping art and design.
The freedom to experiment with new ideas doesn’t stop at its doors. Come inside!
The colony of the artists
Art centers are generally establishments geared toward exposing, generating, and making accessible art making to arts-interested individuals, or buildings that rent primarily to artists, galleries, or companies involved in art making.

“The colony of the artists” serves as a cultural, social, and urban focal point.

Add interest and appeal to an interior concrete installation by staining a design into the surface of the concrete. With a stencil and color hardener, you can create a concrete surface with a pattern that resembles anything from natural flagstones to clay tiles.
