Bags and accessories exhibited in Selfridges store, London. A frenzied series of bold, graphic polka dots!

I love polka, the traditional Russian dress for its cheerful combination of white dots on red or black textiles. When I see girls wearing such clothes I feel an explosion of happiness accompany their soul. Well, the dress is appreciated by fashion designers, but they are not the only ones that found inspiration in it. Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama collaborated with Louis Vuitton to create a collection of garments featuring Kusama’s obsessional polka dot patterns for a concept store at Selfridges department store in London. As you can see from the photos below, the artist seem obsessed with this traditional dress and made the customers follow its dots on imaginary alleys inside the store. Moreover,  twenty four Selfridges display windows repeat this combination of red dots. You are invited in a fairy tale space where large perforated lamps float over the display volumes, captured in a polka dot dance that resembles optical illusions. The  perforations captured in the display compose an ethereal space, guiding visitors towards a life-sized model of Kusama herself, completely covered in polka dots.

Famous brand Louis Vuitton collaborated with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. No doubt the artist is obsessed with dots!

24  display windows repeat obsessively the combination of red dots. The window is the invitation, but the store is the party!

The collection inspired from the Russian traditional dress. The number of dots is so obsessive, no one can count them!

The entrance of the store: perforated giant lamps hang over the display tables, which are in tune with the red&white floor and walls.  The  perforations captured in the display compose an ethereal space.

A fantasy world full of dots! If you want to visit this astounding concept store, you might want to know it will stay open until the 1st of October 2012.
