When you enter a public library is like you dive into the ocean. Books, periodicals, manuscripts and other materials for reading, listening, study, viewing or reference are at your disposal. And, if the atmosphere is comfy and inviting, you will lose track of time. This is exactly the case with the Centerville Public Library in Massachusetts, USA, a project realised by Brown Lindquist Fenuccio & Raber Architects. Designed with sustainable and green features, the building features  an energy efficient LED lighting, a high efficiency heating and cooling equipment and a heat recovery ventilator. As for the spaces, two major stories were added to existing building to accommodate a new reading room, a multi-purpose space, a room for collections and one for teenagers. Have a look and find some inspiration of how to use space smartly for your home library!

Embracing a classic aesthetic, the team used some simple, typical bookcases so that the rooms look clean and organised.  The last shelves on the top were left for decorative items – little sculptures, dolls or toys.

Intimate reading corners were created near the windows, with comfy armchairs and tables. Wood became a leitmotif of the interiors as it was used amply in every room.
