Shining like a precious stone in the austere lands of Bavaria, Waltl Residence stands out among other houses in the village. “In these traditional villages, homes tend to be built a certain way and materials are strictly limited in order to preserve a unified appearance. The City Council did feel however that they would like to see a more contemporary interpretation and we were happy to have the opportunity”, the architects from McClean Design explain on their website. Firstly, the team chose to divide the house into two main blocks with vaulted ceilings with flat roofed sections joining them together around the courtyard. An office was placed as an object within the courtyard, a cockpit from which much of the living space is visible and adjacent to the children’s rooms. As you can easily notice from the pictures below, some sliding doors connect the house to the surrounding landscape and the inhabitants experience the beauty outside while dining or chatting in the living room.
