Completed in 2008 by Swedish studio GRAD Arkitekter, the 240 m2 Villa P is what Scandinavian aesthetic and functionality can produce at its best. Located in Tyresö, a municipality with about 43000 inhabitants, 15 km south-east of Stockholm, the house meets its guests in a lovely, green environment. The beauty of nature comes inside through large windows, while sunlight warms the interiors all day long. Villa P is a clean, minimalist dwelling built according to the concept of “beautiful things that make your life better”: a nice terrace overlooking the lake, a sauna for relaxation and a fireplace to huddle around with your beloved family. Besides that, decorations are almost invisible, and the color palette very between white, grey and black. Highly functional, the house is effective without needing heavy elements; only what is needed is used. Once again, the project proved me that survival in the north required products to be functional, and this was the basis of all design from early on.
