Nestled on the fabulous Golfe de Saint-Tropez is celebrated designer Christophe Pillet and hotelier extraordinaire Shahe Kalaidjian’s latest brainchild, Hôtel Sezz Saint-Tropez. From the ruins of a 3-star hotel, architect Jean-Jacques Ory developed the elegant structure in accordance with international ecological building practice. Sezz shines new light on the regional tradition of luxury resorts. Naturally fortressed by a verdant private garden, the hotel focuses on a dynamic central swimming pool. Moving throughout the hotel, Pillet’s unique and distinctive style is present in nearly every corner and crevice.

Hôtel Sezz in Paris’ 16th Arrondissement, established an urban identity and the Saint-Tropez sister-property reinterprets it to suit its cultural climate: where Sezz Paris is an urban story, Sezz Saint-Tropez is a resort story by the same authors. Here, Pillet takes his inspiration from the region’s typical Provençal style, reinterpreting the standard with the creative genius for which he has come to be internationally revered. The hotel’s public spaces are contained within a main entrance building beginning with a spacious reception area that leads into the Dom Pérignon bar and the restaurant, spearheaded by the celebrated French chef, Pierre Gagnaire.

The restaurant and bar are constructed from local sandstone in pale grey, embossed cement and panels of aged, stained wood. That they are entirely furnished by Pillet’s team is evident in the trademark oversized gloss lacquered vases, elegantly hidden light fixtures and trademark futuristic seating. Pillet, who trained under Philippe Starck, maintains material consistency throughout the hotel.

Each of the 37 guestrooms, suites and villas are unique expressions of Hôtel Sezz Saint-Tropez’s overarching aesthetic theme, sprinkled with surprises. The extravagant golden tones of the carpets and linens and the reds of the light fixtures highlight the subdued palette of local materials. The rich greens of the surrounding gardens enhance these contrasts, breathing life into Pillet’s curvaceous and graceful design.

The hotel spa, developed in collaboration with Payot, incorporates the stainless steel and gunmetal tubing of the waterfall bath-spouts and square spa showerheads with materials typical of the Provençal style: aged wood, American walnut, solid oak and local sandstone tiling.

And with views peering outwards into what seems like endless layers of deep greenery, guests can experience the region’s beauty while indulging in its newest and freshest relaxation therapy.
